Since I told you all about how Doddi and I spent my birthday I thought I would also share how we spent his birthday which was less than a week after mine. My birthday was of course a little more special this year, since I turned 30, so I hadn’t anything planned for Doddi’s big day. But since we had so much fun on my big day we thought we had to go somewhere and do something on his day, so we went in our Super Jeep and drove to Laugafell.
Beautiful Laugafell with it’s nature bath
But of course we didn’t want to take the normal route, instead we wanted to try a route which most people only drive during the winter time, and after going there I can understand why no one drives it during the summer. We spent hours and hours “rock climbing”, which is not that easy in a big car like ours, so we spent a lot of time hanging out the windows making sure our big tires didn’t hit the biggest rocks and got scratched or even worse cut.
Not that much space on either side of the car… Good thing Doddi is such a great driver!
It wasn’t all rock climbing, at times there were part which was easier to drive
Lots of rocks to watch out for
For the first couple of hours or so it was kind of fun to drive there, especially since this was a route that Doddi’s grandfather lade the tracks for many many years ago. But like I said after a while we got a bit bored of it, driving at a speed of 3 km/h.
Where did the trail go?
It wasn’t exactly how we had planned it. But we did make it to Laugafell, which was our goal, but it did take a lot longer time than we had thought so unfortunately we didn’t have time to take a relaxing swim in the nature bath there which was the thought from the beginning. Still we did get to see a lot and all in all it was a fun day, although I can’t say that I would want to take the route again any time soon 😉
Summer at Laugafell is really nice
Our little family has grown, for my birthday I got the cutest little kitten 🙂
When we lived in Sweden we had the cutest bunny, but when we moved we had to leave the cute little guy in Sweden and we have all missed him a lot. So to fill that empty space we now have gotten a little cat instead, and since she’s mine I guess this ties me to Iceland for a few year at least 😉
My little Medusa
As you might remember, then winter came to North of Iceland pretty early last year. This caused a lot of problem for the farmers here in the north, many of the sheep were lost in the snow. Read my posts form last year Stormy Weather and Stormy Weather part II
This year winter might come even earlier, according to the forecasts, the first snow will come as early as next weekend! Can you believe it? Last year it was “winter” here in northern Iceland from September until May, which was quite a long time if you ask me. Still now winter wants to come even earlier…. Because of the long winter we never had much of a spring, it all seem to go from winter straight into summer, and now we might not get a autumn either. As much as I love snow, and that is a lot, then I can’t say that I want it to fall on us already. A few more weeks of summer and then a couple of months of autumn would be better 😉
I sure hope this little guy doens’t get stuck in the snow somewhere
Guess it’s time to go look for our winter clothes now 😉 You never know when you might need them here 🙂
