A perfect day

Saturday we had amazingly nice weather here and so of course we had to get out of our little apartment and go for a drive in the mountains. We went with on other car and our goal for the day was to drive to Skjaldbreiður, which is an old volcano. We have tried to drive up this mountain once before on our way back from Langjökull last time. That time the weather was pretty bad as you might remember, and we had huge problems getting up the mountain. It took forever to drive the short distance and we stopped before reaching the top. The snow was just horrible and even if we had managed to get up there we wouldn’t have seen anything so we drove home instead. Saturday we did not have this problem. The sun was shining down on us from a blue sky and the snow was perfect, so it only took us about 20 minutes or so to reach the top of Skjaldbreiður, and not hours like last time 😉 The view form up there was stunning! To see all those mountain in their black and white and the super blue sky, it was mind-blowing for sure.

Since it was so easy for us to get up Skjaldbreiður, we of course had to continue on driving and standing up there we could see Langjökull and some tracks leading up the glacier. We’ve never tried to get up the glacier from that side, but since there were tracks we thought we might try it. So we drove down the mountain again and went across to the glacier. This time it was not an impossible glacier 😉 The snow was completely different from what it had been the time before. The car was just gliding on top of the snow without sinking too much which made it super easy to drive, and we actually made it all the way up to the top of the glacier! Even if the weather was as great up there as it had been up on Skjaldbreiður, it was still an amazing day and I had so much fun! 🙂

It was just the perfect day, and being out there is like nothing else, it’s total freedom! Loved it!!! 🙂
