When I came to Iceland I knew we would be very busy the first few weeks, but I still had the plan to blog 1-2 times per week. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to keep that plan. One of the reasons is that last week something happened to our internet and so now it’s super slow and it takes forever to open a page. This has made it very hard for me to even open my blog, let alone write something 😦 Hopefully it will get better, soon!
Two weekends ago we went to Akureyri to participate in a family thing. As I have mentioned before, we took the bus there so that we could take the Cherokee with us back to Reykjavik. On our drive home we decided to take the road over the high lands instead of the boring road we’ve been driving so many times before. Since the Jeep is a 4×4 it wouldn’t be a problem to drive there and so we thought this was the perfect opportunity for us to take that road.
We left kind of late from Akureyri, so we didn’t have a time to do a lot of stops, but we did do some. It really was the perfect evening for doing this trip, a bright summer night with almost no clouds in the sky. One of the stops on the way was Hveravelli (Hot spring field). This is one of the places where you can take a bath in a hot spring. We didn’t do it this time, mainly because we didn’t have any swimwear whit us. But we did walk around for a while. There are a lot of places where there is steam coming up from the ground, and when you walk through the steam you get all warm which was very nice since I was a bit cold during out walk.
Another place we went to was Kerlingarfjöll, which is high up on a mountain and here you can take a walk in a geothermal area. We never went down to the geothermal part, only stood above it and took some pictures. We didn’t want to walk down there because it was so late, and it was starting to get a bit fogy up there on the mountain. Maybe we will just have to come back there someday and go for a real walk. Think these geothermal areas are so cool with all the different colors and stuff.
